Federal Death Row Inmates Project

The Federal Death Row Inmates Project was born of the six rapid-fire executions in the summer and early fall of 2020. These men were Daniel Lewis Lee, Wesley Ira Purkey, Dustin Lee Honken, Lezmond Charles Mitchell, Keith Dwayne Nelson, and William Emmett LeCroy, Jr. and the impact working closely with the execution process had on somebody very close to us. Since then, two more men – Christopher Andre Vialva and Orlando Cordia Hall – have also been executed. More still have been given execution dates.

We watched news outlets sit down with former prosecutors and police, victims’ families give statements, and people rally for and against the death penalty.

The inmates were silent.

We have written letters to the federal death row inmates in FCI Terre Haute since September 2020 and done our best to contact every federal death row inmate housed therein. Several of them have written back to us. These are their stories, in their words.
